Sure, there is certainly something to be said for consistently cleaning out your closet. I, however, am not the biggest fan of purging. Out with the old, in with the new? Make new friends, but keep the old…silver/gold blah blah whatever.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many awesome pieces of childhood clothing I wish I still had. Gems I tell you- actual gems. I’m still straight up pissed at my mother for throwing out my Esméralda (hell yes, from the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dome) Velcro sneakers. She shall never be forgiven.
When it comes to my closet, the only adage I like to live by is: everything old is new again.* And so I present to you my peewee basketball league shirt from over 10 years ago. Casually.
I so desperately wish I had a pic of me swimming in this tee at the adorable age of six. Luckily, from hoarding it all these years I now get to have one at the ripe old age of 22. Unfortunately, because this is no longer the ’90s- a time when “Genie in a Bottle” was our jam and exposing our stomachs was not only acceptable but encouraged- we have to use extreme caution when executing a midriff top.
I’ve found a pretty safe bet is to pair a crop top with a longer-ish high wasted skirt. Plus this houndstooth skirt is faaar too conservative for my taste, so what better to dress it down than with an 10+ year-old rag?
Other than that, a little leather and black (as not to compete with the mustard shirt) is never a bad call. Also- try mixing two black&white patterns together-polka dots and houndstooth, tartan and stripes, tribal and floral. C’mon, just try it.
*I’ve been jonesin’ to bust out my thermal camouflage print Ed Hardy shirt with a bedazzled tiger on the front. No joke. It’s so over-the-top..it’s ahhmazing! At least I think so…but everyone has been telling me it’s too soon so i’ll wait.
