This week I’m covering the typical tomboy dilemma: You want to wear a dress, buuut you also want to sport a pair of tennis shoes. It has been done. It can be done and it will be done.
But I’m not talking Kristen Stewart style- “Oww oww my feet hurt so I must swap my Louboutins for Nikes on the Red Carpet”. No, Sir. I’m thinking of a scenario where it’s pretty nice out, you want to wear a feminine sundress and ride a bike, maybe even play a game of pick up- I don’t know your life.
First and foremost let me clarify: these sneakers must hold some kind of vintage element. You should already know but just incase: you are not about to wear some cross-trainers or cleats. C’mon GUYZ.
Similarly to Vans, as mentioned in previous posts, Converse sneakers are great ones to stick to. Keep it classic.
^I look like Marilyn Monroe meets Method Man.
As for everything from the ankle up, try to stay in the same color palette and dress for the weather. If it’s nippy, add a “Yo! MTV Raps” jacket. Kidding, but stay warm with a good sports jacket.
Also- I’ve found that denim vests/jackets greatly assist the sneakers in the task of dressing down your dress.
Guess what, assholes? This could also work for a Valentine’s Day outfit as well. Me? Oh, I’ll be listening to Alanis Morissette…drunk. But if you happen to be out and about, why not sport the color of amore: red, never pink. Sometimes, pick. HOT PINK.
Sincerely yours,
Sabrina
